La Nación reported on January 4, 2026, about recent developments in Venezuela and a local story involving animal welfare. The tweets included updates on the Venezuelan political situation and a profile of an individual dedicated to helping abandoned animals.

Vargas, aged 67, is described as an independent worker who spends his earnings on food and medicine for stray cats and pursues this mission alone.

On the same day, La Nación reported significant news from Venezuela’s military leadership. According to their tweet: “La Fuerza Armada de Venezuela reconoció a Delcy Rodríguez como presidenta encargada por 90 días, tras la caída de Nicolás Maduro en una operación estadounidense, según un comunicado leído por el ministro de Defensa.” (January 4, 2026). This statement said that Venezuela’s armed forces recognized Delcy Rodríguez as interim president for ninety days following the ousting of Nicolás Maduro in a U.S.-led operation.

Shortly after, another update stated: “La Fuerza Armada de Venezuela llamó a la población a retomar sus actividades económicas y educativas tras la captura de Nicolás Maduro en una operación militar de Estados Unidos.” (January 4, 2026). The Venezuelan military urged citizens to resume economic and educational activities after Maduro’s capture.

The recognition of Delcy Rodríguez as interim president by the Venezuelan armed forces follows longstanding tensions within the country regarding presidential legitimacy and international involvement. Nicolás Maduro had faced widespread criticism and sanctions from various countries over allegations of electoral irregularities and human rights abuses. The United States has previously imposed sanctions on Venezuelan officials and expressed support for opposition leaders in efforts to restore democratic governance in Venezuela.
