La Nación, a major Costa Rican news outlet, published several updates on October 2, 2025, regarding ongoing criminal investigations and administrative actions within the country.

In a post from the early morning, La Nación reported that the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) had ruled out any connection between a detainee in Hatillo and the homicide of Kevin Kirby. (October 2, 2025). This announcement followed statements from Randall Zúñiga, a key figure in the investigation, who provided further details on the case.

Later the same morning, La Nación shared news regarding a suspension within a government institution. (October 2, 2025). According to these reports, Gabriela Chacón Fernández, the executive president of the Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS), was suspended for 20 days without pay by the Government Council.

The OIJ is Costa Rica’s primary investigative police agency, responsible for major criminal cases in the country. The Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS) is a state-owned insurance company, and its executive president is appointed by the Government Council. The suspension of high-ranking officials within public institutions in Costa Rica is typically carried out by this council when there are concerns regarding their conduct or performance.
