La Nación reports on hotel death, road accident, and lottery results
La Nación, a major Costa Rican newspaper, published several updates on November 17, 2025, covering incidents involving public safety and the national lottery.
On November 17, La Nación posted about the dangers of aluminum phosphide pesticide in connection with a hotel guest’s death: “Fosfuro de alumnio, plaguicida por el que habría muerto huésped de hotel, es tan peligroso que solo se vende con receta. Conozca su regulación https://t.co/ZaWtgIqwTb” (posted at 01:33 UTC). The tweet notes that this chemical is highly regulated due to its toxicity and is only available by prescription.
Shortly after, La Nación reported a fatal traffic accident: “Un mujer fallece y otra es trasladada en estado crítico, tras choque en ruta 32 https://t.co/4AJ2TuDjoB” (posted at 01:43 UTC). The post details that one woman died and another was critically injured following a collision on Route 32.
Later the same day, La Nación shared information regarding the national lottery results: “Lotería nacional: Estos son los números ganadores de este domingo 16 de noviembre https://t.co/wN72uFoHHU” (posted at 02:00 UTC).
Aluminum phosphide is recognized as a hazardous substance used for pest control and is subject to strict regulation in Costa Rica. Its sale requires a medical prescription due to potential health risks associated with improper use. Route 32 is one of Costa Rica’s main highways connecting San José with Limón; it has been the site of numerous accidents over recent years due to challenging driving conditions.
