La Nación, a prominent Costa Rican newspaper, reported on several key events on January 13, 2026, through its Twitter account.

In the early hours of the day, La Nación announced that “El Deportivo Saprissa arranca participación en el Clausura en juego contra Puntarenas.” (January 13, 2026). Deportivo Saprissa is one of Costa Rica’s most successful football clubs and their participation in the national league’s Clausura tournament draws significant attention each season.

Later in the day, La Nación highlighted a development concerning Sporting FC and their new player. The tweet stated: “Mayron George llega con mentalidad ganadora a un Sporting que primero debe salir de los últimos puestos.” (January 13, 2026). Mayron George is a professional footballer whose arrival at Sporting FC is seen as an attempt to improve the club’s standing in the league.

Additionally, La Nación covered international news involving U.S. politics and Iran. In another tweet published that day, they wrote: “El presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump, pidió este martes a los iraníes que mantengan las manifestaciones y tomen las instituciones.” (January 13, 2026). This statement refers to former President Donald Trump’s call for Iranians to continue protests and take control of institutions amid ongoing political unrest.

Deportivo Saprissa has historically been one of Costa Rica’s leading football teams with numerous national titles. Mayron George is known for his career both domestically and internationally and has played for various clubs before joining Sporting FC. Political tensions between Iran and the United States have periodically resulted in calls for protest within Iran; such statements from U.S. leaders often draw global attention.
