La Nación, a major Costa Rican newspaper, published several updates on January 13, 2026, covering key moments from the TSE presidential debate and reporting on the death of a musician.

In one post from January 13, La Nación reported: “Ariel Robles en debate del TSE: Hay riesgo de un narcoestado, Laura Fernández tiene un defensor de narcos como candidato en Alajuela”. In this statement, Ariel Robles raised concerns about the risk of a narco-state and accused Laura Fernández of having a candidate in Alajuela who defends narcotics traffickers.

Another update posted by La Nación at 03:01 UTC stated: “Debate presidencial del TSE: Luis Amador y Ariel Robles se enfrentan por explotación de petróleo”. The tweet highlights an exchange between Luis Amador and Ariel Robles regarding oil exploitation during the presidential debate organized by Costa Rica’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE).

Later that night, La Nación reported on the passing of a musician with the message: “Falleció músico de famosa banda de rock: ‘Murió tras una larga batalla con su salud mental’”. The tweet notes that the musician died after a prolonged struggle with mental health issues.

The TSE (Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones) is responsible for organizing and supervising elections in Costa Rica. Presidential debates are part of its efforts to inform voters ahead of national elections. Issues such as drug trafficking and resource exploitation have been central topics in recent political campaigns in Costa Rica.
