SINAC refers to Costa Rica’s National System of Conservation Areas. The organization is responsible for managing protected areas and enforcing environmental laws throughout the country. Tortuguero is known for its biodiversity and protected waterways.

A third report from La Nación at 18:47 UTC read: “Encuentran bodega subterránea con plantas eléctricas, bombas y cianuro cerca de Conchudita https://t.co/AwF4GOSxfV”. Incidents involving clandestine storage facilities have previously raised concerns about public safety and environmental risks in Costa Rica.
