La Nación, a major Costa Rican news outlet, reported on several events on January 3, 2026. The organization posted updates concerning a search operation by the Red Cross and public statements from Monseñor Eugenio Salazar Mora.

In one update, La Nación stated on January 3, 2026: “Cruz Roja busca a hombre desaparecido en playa Moín tras rescatar a su hijo https://t.co/6ArfYpMTSW”. According to the post, the Costa Rican Red Cross was searching for a man who went missing at Moín beach after rescuing his son.

On the same day, La Nación shared information regarding Monseñor Eugenio Salazar Mora, bishop of the Diocese of Tilarán-Liberia. The tweet from January 3, 2026 reads: “Monseñor Eugenio Salazar Mora, obispo de la Diócesis de Tilarán-Liberia, publicó un mensaje con una frase de rechazo a dictaduras y un llamado a defender la democracia mediante el ejercicio del voto en las elecciones del 1.° de febrero. El sacerdote… https://t.co/2JKtZOAWP9”. This message included both opposition to dictatorships and an appeal to citizens to protect democracy by voting in the upcoming February elections.

A subsequent post reiterated this statement: “Monseñor Eugenio Salazar publica mensaje con frase de rechazo a dictaduras https://t.co/7EWkuUUj90”.

The Red Cross in Costa Rica frequently conducts rescue operations along its coasts due to dangerous sea conditions that have led to drownings and disappearances in recent years. Meanwhile, public figures such as Catholic bishops often use their platforms during election periods to encourage civic participation and stress democratic values.
