University rectors in Costa Rica have called for an investigation following threats of attacks on university campuses, according to statements shared by La Nación, a prominent Costa Rican newspaper, on November 20, 2025. The same night, the outlet also reported two violent deaths in separate incidents.
In a post dated November 20, 2025, La Nación quoted university rectors: “Rectores exigen investigación por amenazas de ataques en universidades: ‘No cederemos ante actos que pretenden sembrar terror’”. This message emphasized the resolve of academic leaders not to yield to threats intended to instill fear within educational institutions.
Later that evening, La Nación reported another incident: “Asesinan de 15 balazos a hombre en Alajuelita”. According to this post from November 20, 2025, a man was shot dead with fifteen bullets in the Alajuelita district.
A third report from the same date stated: “Hombre muere apuñalado por mujer tras disputa”, describing an incident where a man died after being stabbed by a woman following an argument.
La Nación is one of Costa Rica’s leading newspapers and frequently reports on national security issues and criminal incidents. In recent years, Costa Rica has experienced growing concerns about public safety and violence in both urban areas and academic settings. The demands from university rectors for investigations reflect ongoing efforts by educational authorities to maintain campus security amid rising threats.
