La Nación, a major Costa Rican news outlet, shared several updates on its official X account on September 10, 2025. The posts covered topics ranging from health news about a prominent journalist to wildlife conservation and higher education rankings in Latin America.
In its first post of the evening, La Nación reported: “Randall Rivera, director de ‘Noticias Repretel’, será operado; le detectaron nódulo ‘potencialmente maligno’” (September 10, 2025). This message announced that Randall Rivera, director of the television news program Noticias Repretel, will undergo surgery after being diagnosed with a potentially malignant nodule.
Shortly afterward, La Nación turned to international wildlife news with the following statement: “Nace en Estados Unidos un raro hipopótamo pigmeo; solo quedan menos de 2.500 ejemplares en estado salvaje” (September 10, 2025). The tweet highlighted the birth of a rare pygmy hippopotamus in the United States and noted that fewer than 2,500 individuals remain in the wild. Pygmy hippos are classified as endangered due to habitat loss and hunting pressures.
Later that night, La Nación addressed higher education in Latin America by posting: “Estas son las 20 mejores universidades de toda Latinoamérica, según el ranking QS 2026” (September 10, 2025). This tweet referenced the newly released QS World University Rankings for Latin America for the year 2026. The QS rankings are widely recognized for evaluating universities based on academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio and research output.
La Nación is known for providing comprehensive coverage of national and international events across various sectors including health, environment and education.
