Man dies after electric shock while installing roof in San Rafael de Guatuso

A man died on April 1 after receiving an electric shock while working on a house in San Rafael de Guatuso, Alajuela. Authorities said the incident happened around 7 p.m. near the old airstrip.

The case is significant as it highlights risks faced by workers handling electrical equipment or working near power lines. Workplace safety remains an important concern for both employers and employees.

According to rescue teams, the victim, identified by the last names Sánchez Campos and aged 32, came into contact with a high-voltage cable while welding at the site. Emergency responders from Cruz Roja arrived quickly and performed resuscitation efforts but declared him dead at the scene.

Agents from the Organismo de InvestigaciĂłn Judicial (OIJ) were present to handle removal of the body and transfer it to the Judicial Morgue for further examination.

Authorities have not released additional details about how contact with the high-voltage cable occurred or if there will be further investigation into workplace safety conditions.
