Ministerio de Hacienda de Costa Rica issues updates on IFRS criteria and April tax declarations

The Ministerio de Hacienda de Costa Rica published several updates on its official Twitter account regarding tax matters and public communication activities.

On May 4, 2026, the ministry shared a message of gratitude following a national broadcast, stating: “Cadena Nacional domingo 3 de mayo de2026. Ā”Gracias por tanto! Me los llevo en el corazón.” (May 4, 2026).

Later that day, the ministry announced the issuance of an opinion on the application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in tax matters with the post: “HACIENDA EMITE CRITERIO SOBRE APLICACIƓN DE LAS NIIF EN MATERIA TRIBUTARIA” (May 4, 2026). The adoption and interpretation of IFRS are significant for companies operating in Costa Rica as they affect how financial statements are prepared for tax purposes.

Additionally, the ministry reminded taxpayers about filing their April 2026 tax returns by posting: “PRESENTACIƓN DE DECLARACIONES TRIBUTARIAS ABRIL 2026” (May 4, 2026). Timely submission of tax declarations is a legal requirement for individuals and businesses in Costa Rica.
