The Ministry of Education (MEP) in Costa Rica announced on April 22 the launch of a large-scale training program in artificial intelligence for educators, offering 90,000 scholarships to teachers, school directors, and educational leaders across the country. The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Centro de Estudios y Capacitación Cooperativa (CENECOOP R.L.).

The program aims to prepare the national education system for future challenges by equipping teaching staff with skills to integrate artificial intelligence into their work. This is expected to help personalize learning and improve educational outcomes.

“Artificial intelligence will not replace teachers; it will empower them. And a teacher who uses it well will transform education. That is why today we are not talking about the future: we are training those who will build it,” said Minister Leonardo Sánchez Hernández.

The training course is fully virtual and asynchronous, allowing participants to study at their own pace from anywhere in Costa Rica. It includes over 225 educational resources divided into four modules covering fundamentals, tools, ethics, and innovation. Participants will also have access to a range of digital tools used internationally that aim to strengthen research skills and creativity.

Those enrolled can access the platform between April 27 and December 31, 2026. To pass each module, participants must complete a questionnaire with a minimum score of eight out of ten points.

“From CENECOOP we reaffirm our commitment to continuous professional development in Costa Rica. This alliance with MEP allows us to bring innovative tools like artificial intelligence closer to teachers, strengthening their abilities and contributing toward more relevant and updated education,” said a spokesperson from CENECOOP.

Participants who successfully complete all requirements will receive a certificate endorsed by FUNDEPOS University, CENECOOP R.L., and NextGen Professionals confirming their proficiency in using artificial intelligence for educational purposes.

Enrollment periods are scheduled from May 4-8 and June 8-12 through https://cenecoop.net/eventos/j/MX2ELMuQ2W.
