The Ministry of Education announced on March 27 that more than 60,000 students from over 900 public schools will have access to additional technology platforms to support learning in English, mathematics, and literacy. The project is part of the Learning Accelerators initiative and will now include My Reading Academy (in English) and My Reading Academy Español alongside existing tools such as ABCmouse, Aprende Inglés, and My Math Academy.

This expansion aims to accelerate student learning by providing interactive resources for both English and Spanish literacy as well as mathematics. The new applications are designed for different age groups: My Reading Academy (in English) targets second cycle students with activities focused on reading comprehension, phonics, and fluency based on the Science of Reading; while My Reading Academy Español is intended for preschoolers and first cycle students in priority areas and rural districts.

The initiative is made possible through a partnership between the Ministry of Education, Asociación Creciendo Juntos, Mohari Hospitality, and Age of Learning Inc. The collaboration includes monitoring student progress, technical assistance provision, and reporting to assess the impact on Costa Rican learners.

Teacher training sessions will be organized along with regional technical support and ongoing monitoring across all 27 Regional Education Directorates in the country. Additionally, the Ministry announced a separate alliance with CENECOOP R.L., which will provide 90,000 scholarships for teachers and education leaders to receive training in artificial intelligence applied to education.

Other recent efforts highlighted include work sessions for science teachers using remote laboratories provided by Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED), guidance published jointly with the Public Transport Council regarding student safety during transportation services, national standardized tests held from March 23-27 for graduating high school students across public and private institutions, as well as campaigns promoting reading habits under this year’s educational motto: “School shapes us; writing drives us; values guide us.”

International observances such as World Water Day on March 22—which raises awareness about sustainable management of freshwater—and International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21 were also commemorated by educational authorities.
