The Ministry of Health announced on April 17 that it is strengthening health services across the country by acquiring its own buildings for the Area Rector Health Directorates in the cantons of Mora, Curridabat, Escazú, Santo Domingo, Belén, and Flores.
This initiative involves an investment exceeding â‚¡1.466 billion in 2025. The Ministry said this step not only optimizes public resource use but also improves care and well-being for the population. Having dedicated facilities ensures more suitable, accessible, and safe spaces for both users and staff.
According to the Ministry of Health, these improved conditions help health personnel provide more efficient and humane service to residents. The acquisition is expected to generate annual savings of over ₡125 million—a reduction of about 33 percent compared to previous rental costs.
The Ministry stated that owning these properties will reduce spending on leases while enhancing operational capacity. This move aims to ensure more stable and higher-quality health services for communities throughout the country.
By investing in infrastructure rather than continuing with rentals, officials say they are contributing to long-term economic benefits as well as better healthcare delivery.
