The Ministry of Health is continuing its efforts to control the spread of chikungunya in Esparza, following confirmation of a case in the area. Through its Vector Control Program, the ministry has focused initial interventions in EspÃritu Santo and is expanding actions to other sectors within the canton.
Efforts include three cycles of intervention involving fumigation with thermal foggers inside and outside homes, as well as door-to-door visits to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites and detect individuals with symptoms such as fever. The ministry is also using a LECO machine for fumigation twice daily—during early morning and late afternoon hours when the mosquito vector is most active. Additionally, a tractonebulizer will be used to cover larger areas.
Epidemiological surveillance remains active as health authorities work to strengthen mosquito control measures and reduce transmission risk.
“The Ministry of Health calls on the population to cooperate with control actions, allow access for properly identified personnel, and stay informed only through official channels, as part of a joint commitment to prevent diseases and protect public health,” stated the Ministry.
