The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) announced on April 17 that it will begin road works next Monday along a 1,650-meter stretch of National Route 250, between Aguas Zarcas and Los Chiles in the area known as La Caporal.
This project is part of the Emergency Program for the Integral and Resilient Reconstruction of Infrastructure (PROERI). According to MOPT, $7,376,095 will be invested in these works. The interventions include improvements at river crossings and streams as well as the replacement and reconstruction of culverts.
The plan also features a three-lane section: one lane in each direction plus an additional uphill lane toward Agua Zarcas. Sidewalks will be constructed to provide safer and more inclusive mobility for pedestrians.
Initial activities starting Monday include drainage work near the Mamirmi company close to Los Chiles, as well as preparations for a third lane at Y Griega near Aguas Zarcas. Excavation work at both sites will require regulated single-lane traffic until construction is completed.
According to MOPT, this project aims to improve water flow, prevent damage from rainfall, and strengthen road safety in the region.
