The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) announced on Apr. 20 that the process to obtain a permit for breaking roads on the National Road Network can now be completed online through the Integrated Road Forecasting System (SIPREVI).

This permit is required for any work that involves altering, damaging, or modifying the road surface, shoulders, or right-of-way related to public services such as installing pipes or underground cables. The regulation of this process falls under decree 45201-MOPT.

According to MOPT, if the work is planned on a national highway, their department issues the permit. For municipal roads, local municipalities are responsible. SIPREVI also allows users to manage applications for road alignment and plan approval.

Through this system, applicants can submit requests, check application status or history, and download necessary documents once processes are complete. Access to SIPREVI is available at https://aplicaciones.mopt.go.cr/SIPREVI/SIPREVI040.aspx.

The ministry said access to SIPREVI requires a computer because digital signature authentication is needed; mobile devices such as phones or tablets cannot be used.
