The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) has completed the improvement of 6.05 kilometers of local road between Santo Domingo and the Torres sector in the Monterrey district of San Carlos. The project was executed through the Second Program for the Cantonal Road Network (PRVC II), in collaboration with the Municipality of San Carlos and RECOPE.
The improved road was officially handed over to the local government, which will now be responsible for its maintenance to ensure stability and longevity. According to MOPT, “The project aims to strengthen tourism in the area as well as improve road safety in the sector.”
Work on this section included building two culvert crossings, renewing and upgrading the road surface by adding granular base material and an asphalt layer. These efforts are expected to enhance both service level and structural capacity of the route.
Additional improvements involved installing 200 meters of vehicle containment systems, completing vertical and horizontal signage throughout the upgraded stretch, and planning for wildlife crossings to be installed as a final step.
The PRVC II program invested $1,624,049.93 in these improvements in Monterrey.
