The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) has completed a road improvement project in San Carlos, Costa Rica. The project was carried out through the Second Cantonal Road Network Program (PRVC II) and focused on upgrading La Comarca street.
This initiative was developed in partnership with the Municipality of San Carlos and RECOPE. Upon completion, the improved road was formally handed over to the local government for ongoing maintenance to ensure its long-term stability.
The intervention covered 4.5 kilometers of cantonal road No. 2-10-052 in the area known as La Comarca. This route connects the districts of Venecia and Pital and also serves as a link to National Route 4, which is a key part of the northern Atlantic corridor.
The work included constructing eight culverts and improving the road surface by adding granular base material and an asphalt layer with a thickness of 13 centimeters. These upgrades are expected to significantly enhance both the service level and structural capacity of the route.
Additionally, vertical and horizontal signage was installed along the entire upgraded section to improve safety for pedestrians and drivers using this road.
PRVC II invested $1,237,922.83 in this project, which aims to reduce travel times for agricultural exports as well as daily commutes for residents in this region.
Luis Amador JimĂ©nez, Minister of Public Works and Transport, stated: “In this way we contribute not only to better conditions for moving people but also support economic activity linked to agriculture.”
