The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) has stated that reinforcement and repair work on the bridge over the Grande de Tárcoles River, located on National Route 34, is essential due to the advanced deterioration of the structure. This assessment is supported by technical evaluations from LanammeUCR and other specialized studies.
Authorities have acknowledged that regulated traffic flow at the site has caused delays at certain times of day. However, monitoring and collected data indicate these delays are not constant but occur mainly during peak hours, with most waiting times being less than ten minutes.
According to MOPT, “It is important to take into account that current inconveniences are temporary and minimal compared to the risk faced by the country if the bridge were to collapse. A structural failure would completely interrupt connection with the Pacific coast, severely affecting tourism, freight transport, and thousands of users.”
The ministry is currently gathering operational data to adjust crossing times for each direction and optimize traffic control. The goal is to reduce delays and improve user experience while construction continues.
“As a ministry, we emphasize our commitment to guaranteeing the safety of all users by completing work on the Tárcoles River bridge, a strategic structure for the country,” MOPT stated. “We ask citizens for understanding, to plan their trips, and use Route 2 when traveling south whenever possible.”
