A 29-year-old man, identified as Brenes Rojas, died early Monday morning after a motorcycle accident on the road connecting Cartago and San José near the Cristo Rey service station in Ochomogo.

According to authorities, the incident took place around 2:00 a.m. when the motorcyclist skidded and collided with a metal barrier on the side of the road. Emergency responders from the Cartago Red Cross arrived at the scene but found that the victim showed no signs of life. The specific cause of the accident remains unknown, though officials have not ruled out that wet road conditions may have played a role.

The removal of the body was completed after 6:00 a.m., during which time the road remained closed. Despite many students and workers being on vacation, traffic congestion developed from downtown Cartago and affected alternate routes as well. The disruption lasted until after 8:00 a.m., partly due to additional accidents and what is known locally as “the rubbernecking effect.”
