The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT), through the Directorate General of Road Education (DGEV) and in partnership with the National Printing Office, announced that new driver’s manuals will be available for purchase starting Monday, February 16. These manuals will be used in evaluations beginning March 2.

Sindy Coto, Director of the DGEV, stated: “Starting next Monday, people interested in taking the theoretical driving test can purchase the Driver’s Manual for either automobile or motorcycle. Each manual costs ¢3,500 and includes practice questions.”

The production and sale of these manuals are managed by the National Printing Office. They will be sold at its offices located in La Uruca, at the National Registry in Zapote, and at the central headquarters of Road Education in Paso Ancho.

Additionally, individuals can request a manual by emailing mercadeo@imprenta.go.cr to have it delivered anywhere in the country via Correos de Costa Rica.

The new manuals are tailored separately for automobiles and motorcycles to provide more precise training and evaluation based on vehicle type. This aims to better assess drivers’ skills and knowledge according to their license category.

Current testing procedures will remain unchanged until February 27, 2026. The requirements for registering remain the same, including credential verification. The cost of the test continues to be ¢5,000.
