The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced on March 23 that the new bridge over the Pacuar River in La Palma de Pérez Zeledón will open to traffic on Friday, March 27. The opening is scheduled ahead of Easter week, aiming to support tourism and travelers during the holiday period.
Authorities said that before the bridge opens, road closures will be required from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27. These closures are necessary for laying hot asphalt mix at both ends of the new structure where it connects with National Route 243 between Dominical and San Isidro de El General.
Once this work is completed along approximately 100 meters of roadway on each side of the bridge, officials from the Roadways and Bridges Construction Management division at the National Roadway Council stated that two-way traffic will be allowed across the site for the first time. Currently, only a single-lane modular bridge is available for vehicles.
During closure hours on both days, heavy vehicles will not be permitted through the area. Buses must use an alternate municipal route along with light vehicles as instructed by authorities.
Following its opening, minor tasks such as road marking and other finishing works will continue but are not expected to significantly impact local traffic flow. The new bridge cost ¢1.754 billion colones, measures 60 meters in length, and includes a sidewalk measuring 1.2 meters wide.
Construction began last April after Easter week in 2025.
