The film ‘One Battle After Another’ was named best picture at the 98th Academy Awards, according to a March 16 announcement. The ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where director Paul Thomas Anderson and producer Sara Murphy accepted the award alongside the cast and crew.
The recognition of ‘One Battle After Another’ as best picture highlights its strong presence during this year’s awards season. The film led with 13 nominations and also won for best casting, best supporting actor, best adapted screenplay, best editing, and best director.
Despite being considered a favorite with a record-setting 16 nominations, ‘Sinners’ won only three awards. Other notable nominees included Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein,’ ‘Marty Supreme,’ and Norwegian film ‘Sentimental Value,’ each of which had nine nominations.
The ceremony featured several memorable moments. Conan O’Brien served as host and opened the event with jokes referencing artificial intelligence. Jordan received recognition for his dual performance in ‘Sinners,’ dedicating his win to those who paved the way before him: “Dios es bueno y hola, mamá; papá está aquí también.
Jessie Buckley was awarded best actress for her performance in ‘Hamnet.’
The evening included tributes to inclusion and heartfelt speeches from winners. With new milestones reached and laughter led by O’Brien throughout the night, organizers reaffirmed cinema’s enduring appeal.
