Óscar Ramírez, coach of Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, mentioned Ignacio Santos during a press conference at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on March 10. The remarks came ahead of the team’s first-leg match against LAFC in the Concacaf Champions Cup.

The reference to Santos occurred when Ramírez was asked whether he would prioritize defense for the upcoming game, given LAFC’s offensive style. He responded by highlighting his team’s understanding of their opponent and described LAFC as a versatile club with speed and strong combination play.

Ramírez said that Tuesday’s match would have both defensive and offensive phases, emphasizing the importance of managing the game’s rhythm with or without possession. He also noted that set pieces could be decisive in close matches.

“Que es una manera de resolver partidos cerrados, entonces será el partido que lo dirá, pero como es cierto que defensivo y ofensivo, lo intentaremos que sea 50-50, puro Ignacio Santos,” affirmed Óscar Ramírez.

His comment referencing Ignacio Santos drew some laughter from those present at the press conference. The event took place as Alajuelense prepared for a challenging encounter against LAFC.
