FIFCO, through its Elegí Ayudar volunteer program, and GreenWolf Costa Rica, along with Salvador Ramírez company, KFC Costa Rica, and the Guacalillo-Bajamar Integral Development Association, organized a volunteer cleanup event at Playa Guacalillo in Puntarenas on August 21. The initiative gathered 70 volunteers to help restore the local environment by collecting and recycling waste from the area.

During the activity, participants collected 127 kilograms of waste from the beach. This material was then combined with other collected debris for sorting and packaging. In total, 720 kilograms of waste were separated and sent to the Pedregal plant for transformation into Resin8—a raw material made from recycled plastics that is used in concrete and prefabricated construction products. An additional 294 kilograms of waste remain stored for future processing.

These efforts are part of a circular economy approach aimed at reducing environmental damage caused by long-term accumulation of waste on beaches and mangroves. Such pollution has harmed biodiversity and affected tourism potential in the region.

According to organizers, “The event reaffirms Elegí Ayudar’s commitment to providing collaborators and strategic allies with the opportunity to actively experience sustainability, generating a positive and tangible impact on communities and ecosystems.” They added that this initiative demonstrates “that environmental protection is a shared responsibility among companies, organizations, communities, and individuals.”

GreenWolf Costa Rica supported the effort as part of its mission to promote socio-ecosystemic recovery in Costa Rica through collaborative action. Organizers noted that the Playa Guacalillo event represents progress toward regenerating coastal areas affected by pollution while highlighting cooperation between private companies, civil society groups, and community organizations.
