Police are conducting a large-scale search operation in Santa Clara de Florencia de San Carlos after residents reported the possible abduction of a minor on Monday night.
The incident was reported at 8:23 p.m., about 2.5 kilometers south of the center of Santa Clara. According to preliminary information, neighbors heard a young girl calling for help while a man apparently tried to silence her by covering her mouth. Witnesses did not see the suspect directly but did hear the cries.
Upon arrival, neighbors told the Fuerza Pública that an individual had entered a field with the minor and that they did not recognize him. Both Fuerza Pública and members of the Grupo de Apoyo Operacional (GAO) are involved in ongoing searches in the area to confirm or rule out the account provided by witnesses.
As of now, authorities have not located either the suspect or the minor. They are also checking other regions for any recent reports of missing children. So far, there has been no formal complaint from family members or others regarding a missing child.
The Fuerza Pública continues to maintain police presence in Santa Clara and surrounding areas as efforts continue to clarify what happened.
