The Ministry of Public Education (MEP) and the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER) announced on Apr. 10 a new initiative called Talent Up, which will offer 10,000 scholarships for training in digital skills.
This program aims to strengthen digital talent in order to attract investment, accelerate economic growth, and improve competitiveness. It is being developed as part of the America in the Center program from the Inter-American Development Bank Group, in partnership with Google.
In its first phase, MEP will assign up to 1,500 scholarships to students enrolled in Youth and Adult Education programs or Night Sections at Technical Professional Colleges. Eligible participants must be over 18 years old, have access to adequate technology and internet connectivity for coursework, commit to completing the course requirements, have time available for academic activities, be in their final year of diversified education or technical specialty related to Google Skills projects, and be enrolled in relevant modules or courses. Interested individuals who meet these criteria can apply by filling out an online form.
The initiative aligns with Costa Rica’s National Employability and Human Talent Strategy (ENETH), also known as BRETE. Multiple institutions are participating alongside MEP. To ensure comprehensive learning experiences and effective implementation of these scholarships, PROCOMER will collaborate with strategic partners from both educational and technological sectors.
This scholarship program is one of several recent efforts by Costa Rican authorities to support educational advancement through technology-driven opportunities.
