A 21-year-old man died during an armed confrontation with the Costa Rican Public Force in the Cerro Bonito neighborhood of Alajuelita on Sunday, February 15, according to police sources.

The incident took place in the area known as Las Gradas, where authorities were conducting operations. The deceased was identified by his last name, Fajardo. He died at the scene as a result of gunfire exchanged during the encounter, based on preliminary reports.

Following the shooting, several individuals fled toward La Chanchera. This prompted a police deployment in that sector to locate those involved. Authorities continue to carry out control and surveillance operations at strategic points throughout the district.

Police information indicates that this incident is related to ongoing territorial disputes in Cerro Bonito involving alleged members of a criminal group connected to an individual with the last name SandĂ, who is also known by the alias “Churro.” According to the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ), this group is considered one of those responsible for significant violence in southern San JosĂ©.

Investigations are ongoing to clarify what happened, identify all participants, and determine accountability. The Costa Rican Public Force remains present in greater numbers in the area.
