Puntarenas FC has secured its third consecutive victory, signaling a positive shift after recent administrative issues. The team reached the semifinals of the Torneo de Copa and defeated Pérez Zeledón, bringing their total to eight points in the Clausura 2026 tournament.

Despite recent controversies regarding club ownership, the players showed focus on the field. Last week, Puntarenas FC announced that its sale agreement with a Mexican group was canceled, returning control to the Medina family.

The start of 2026 was challenging for Puntarenas FC, as their first win came only in round six. Since then, they have won three straight matches, including one in the Torneo de Copa. Coach César Alpízar’s squad is now showing improved performances from key players like Klíver Gómez.

With one more game played than some rivals, Puntarenas FC is now just one point away from fourth place in the standings, which is currently held by San Carlos.

In their latest match against Pérez Zeledón, forward Renzo Carballo scored with a header in the 23rd minute. Carballo said to TigoSports: “We are very happy because we have recovered from a difficult start to the tournament. We are getting results and that’s what matters.”

Pérez Zeledón has struggled recently after a strong opening to their season. The team now has two consecutive losses and has not won in six matches. Following this defeat, Pérez Zeledón sits seventh in the table with seven points.

Goalkeeper Bryan Segura told TigoSports: “It’s a complicated moment because we play good football. I feel some details are costing us and it’s been hard for us. We deserve more than what we’ve achieved.”
