The Costa Rican Red Cross said on April 3 that it is responding to an emergency following a collision between two boats in Barra de Parismina, Limón. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon and has resulted in multiple injuries, with at least one patient reported in critical condition.
Barra de Parismina is an area where transportation of people and goods relies heavily on barges and other vessels. The crash left several people injured and some individuals in the water as rescue operations continued into the evening.
The Red Cross confirmed that one critically injured patient was taken to a local medical center for treatment. “La Cruz Roja no descarta que haya personas desaparecidas,” the organization said, indicating that there may be missing persons as a result of the accident.
Additional resources from nearby communities as well as specialized units from the capital are being deployed to assist with rescue efforts. Authorities have not yet specified how many people were affected or provided details about how the incident happened.
This story remains ongoing as officials continue their response.
