Reserva Conchal, the hospitality division of Florida Ice & Farm Co. (FIFCO), has implemented a management approach that links responsible tourism with a broad sustainability plan. The company’s efforts focus on protecting biodiversity and conserving ecosystems while also investing in social programs and technical training for local talent.

As part of its environmental work, Reserva Conchal conserves nearly 40 hectares within the Conchal Mixed Wildlife Refuge, which is part of the Baulas-Conchal Marine Biological Corridor. The operation also manages an apiary with over 2.5 million bees, producing multifloral honey that has received international recognition for its purity and geographical origin.

Social initiatives by Reserva Conchal include investments in community infrastructure such as the Brasilito school, Cabo Velas Ebais healthcare center, and Brasilito Public Force station. Educational programs are another key element. Since 2014, the Dual Education Program has graduated more than 350 individuals in technical specialties related to tourism, with an employability rate of 85% both within and outside Reserva Conchal.

The company reports carbon positive operations at The Westin Reserva Conchal All-Inclusive Golf Resort since 2015 and W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal since 2019. Its Waste Recovery Center achieves a recovery rate above 96%, supporting a circular economy model. This connects to other projects like the forest nursery and Hortalizas Najui agroecological garden, which is managed by women heads of households from nearby communities.

According to Reserva Conchal, these actions show how hospitality can support sustainable transformation by connecting people with nature, science, education, and human development.
