The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced on Apr. 29 that a reversible lane will be implemented on National Route 27, San José-Caldera, on Sunday, May 3. The measure is intended to facilitate the return of travelers from Puntarenas and Guanacaste following the International Workers’ Day holiday.
The ministry said the upcoming long weekend is expected to prompt many people to travel to coastal and mountain areas. In response, all available lanes between Pozón and the Ciudad Colón toll (approximately 47 kilometers) will operate in one direction toward San José from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. that Sunday.
Traffic heading toward the Pacific will be suspended between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., according to authorities, in order to prevent vehicles traveling in opposite directions from encountering each other and thus reduce accident risks.
The General Directorate of Traffic Engineering has set a maximum speed limit of 60 km/h during this period. Drivers are urged by officials to respect this limit, which will be clearly marked with temporary signage. Transit Police officers will also be present for traffic regulation.
Travelers seeking information about road conditions or needing assistance can contact the Concessionaire’s Control Center at telephone number 2588-4040.
