Two people were found dead on Sunday at the home of director and actor Rob Reiner in Southern California, according to U.S. and local media reports. The bodies have been identified as Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner.
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed to NBC that the deceased individuals discovered inside the residence were a man and a woman, approximately 78 and 68 years old, respectively. Preliminary reports cited by those outlets indicate both victims had stab wounds.
Detectives from the robbery-homicide division have been assigned to the case, which remains under investigation.
As of press time, authorities had not officially confirmed the identities of the victims or provided information about possible suspects or motives.
Neighbors in Brentwood told reporters that property records show Rob Reiner and his wife were the only residents of the house where their bodies were found.
Rob Reiner became known as an actor in the 1970s for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in “All in the Family.” He later established himself as a director with films such as “This Is Spinal Tap” (1984) and “When Harry Met Sally” (1989), starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. His other works include “A Few Good Men,” “Misery,” “Stand by Me,” and “The Princess Bride,” with some considered cult classics from the 1980s.
Authorities stated they will continue collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to clarify what happened.
