Six teams have secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the Torneo Clausura 2026 of the Liga de Ascenso, with only one matchday remaining in the regular phase, according to an April 6 announcement.

This development is significant as it clarifies much of the playoff picture before the final round. The teams from Group A that have qualified are Inter San Carlos, Jicaral Sercoba, and Quepos Cambute. The last available spot will be contested between Santa Cruz PFA and SarchĂ; Santa Cruz currently holds 17 points while SarchĂ has 16.

Inter San Carlos stands out as they are also reigning champions of the Torneo Apertura 2025. If they win this tournament as well, they will automatically be promoted to Primera DivisiĂłn. Should another club claim this semester’s title, a national final will determine promotion.

In Group B, Escorpiones de Belén, Uruguay de Coronado, and Pitbulls de Santa Bárbara have already qualified for the next stage. Fútbol Consultants overtook Cariari Pococí for fourth place by reaching 15 points compared to Cariari’s 14.

Recent results include Escorpiones de Belén defeating Aserrí with a scoreline of 8-0—goals came from José Montiel, Cristian Muñoz, Abner Hidalgo, two each from Michael Camejo and Bryan Astúa, plus an own goal by Adrián Cheves. Inter San Carlos won away at Palmares (0-3) with goals from Yamil Leal and two by Carlos Villegas. Fútbol Consultants beat Cariari Pococí (0-1) thanks to a goal by Cuban player Elvis Casanova.

Two matches are scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m.: Pitbulls host Uruguay de Coronado at Estadio Carlos Alvarado in Santa Bárbara while Quepos Cambute faces Municipal Grecia at Estadio Puente Piedra in Grecia. The latter was postponed after a fire broke out on the bus transporting Quepos Cambute’s team through Atenas.
