Traffic changes will be implemented this week on National Route 39 as construction advances on the replacement of the bridge over the María Aguilar river. According to authorities, these changes are necessary to begin Phase 3 of the project, which is currently 55% complete.

On Thursday, March 5, starting at 5:00 a.m., the south ramp—used for exiting from the Y Griega roundabout toward Circunvalación—will be closed. The following day, Friday, March 6, there will be a full closure of all four lanes of Circunvalación in the area marked for construction in front of Parque de la Paz. This closure will last three hours, from 2:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., with traffic still allowed through the north ramp (entrance to Y Griega roundabout).

“The purpose of this total closure is to move safety and channeling devices in order to configure the new road layout that will operate in the sector, using the two recently intervened lanes (Phase 2),” stated project officials.

From 5:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6 onward, both lanes of Circunvalación heading from Hatillo to Zapote will remain closed according to their current configuration.

Until completion of the project—expected in the third quarter of this year—traffic will operate with one lane per direction over the newly improved section: one lane from Hatillo to Zapote and another in the opposite direction. Two lanes on the north ramp for access from Circunvalación to Y Griega roundabout will also remain open.

“This reorganization allows us to carry out the work in three phases instead of four, optimizing execution time by taking advantage of dry season conditions and reducing prolonged impacts,” said project representatives.

Drivers are advised to plan their trips ahead, follow road signs and traffic personnel instructions, and consider alternative routes during this period.
