The UNESCO Associated Schools Network (RedPEA) brought together 65 coordinators from its member institutions for a National Meeting held on March 5. The event focused on jointly planning the Strategic Framework for Action 2026-2029, titled “Building peaceful and sustainable futures through transformative education,” as well as each institution’s work plan for 2026.
The meeting is significant because RedPEA connects over 12,000 educational institutions in more than 180 countries to promote peace, human rights, sustainability, and quality education. The network serves as a laboratory of ideas by implementing projects related to heritage, climate change, and global citizenship.
During the event, participants worked in teams on three main themes: Peace through Global Citizenship Education (ECM), Education for Sustainable Development (EDS), and Intercultural Learning with an emphasis on diversity and cultural heritage. Each institution is expected to develop a strategic action plan covering the years 2026 to 2029 aimed at fostering peaceful and sustainable futures through transformative education. Institutions are also tasked with strengthening the implementation of their annual institutional plans.
“It was a warm space among institutional coordinators from across the country, with the goal of understanding RedPEA’s main thematic areas in order to develop a four-year strategic plan that allows public and private educational centers to be models of transformative, peaceful, and sustainable education,” said Jacqueline Solano Salas, national coordinator of RedPEA – MEP.
The broader impact of this initiative lies in its collaborative approach to shaping future educational strategies that emphasize peacebuilding and sustainability. By engaging both public and private schools in long-term planning around these themes, RedPEA aims to set examples for transformative education practices.
