During the match between Herediano and Cartaginés, a controversial moment occurred in the 50th minute when Keysher Fuller entered the Cartaginés penalty area and fell after colliding with goalkeeper Kevin Briceño. Referee David Gómez initially awarded a penalty but was then called by the VAR to review the play.

After reviewing the footage, Gómez reversed his decision and did not award a penalty. Greivin Porras, referee analyst for La Nación, commented on the incident: “Excellent appreciation of VAR to help the referee correct himself, because Kevin Briceño goes directly for the ball and there is no contact that looks like a foul. There is no penalty,” said Porras.

At minute 71 of the match, Herediano was leading Cartaginés 1-0.
