The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) announced on Apr. 9 that work has started this week on the bridges over the Sucio River along National Route 32 and the Chirripó Bridge on National Route 4 near the Río Frío crossing.
Both projects are being carried out by MOPT-CONAVI as part of the Emergency Program for Integral and Resilient Infrastructure Reconstruction (PROERI), which aims to improve safety and quality of life for thousands of people.
Initial activities at both sites will focus on preparatory tasks, including cleaning the structures and surrounding areas to secure spaces and access for work teams. The planned works include rehabilitating bridge supports, reinforcing slabs, restoring embankments, maintaining supports and asphalt surfaces, as well as improving railings, joints, and other complementary elements.
These interventions are expected to enhance the structural conditions of both bridges, extend their useful life spans, and strengthen road safety along with pedestrian mobility in these areas.
The rehabilitation project for the Chirripó Bridge involves an investment of $2,898,999.17. The works at the Sucio River Bridge will cost $2,406,486.08. Both projects are funded by resources from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE).
Completion of these works is estimated for September.
