The Ministry of Public Education (MEP) announced on April 15 that World Art Day is being celebrated, with the aim of promoting the development, dissemination, and promotion of art. This international observance was established at the 40th session of UNESCO’s General Conference in 2019.
World Art Day seeks to strengthen the links between artistic creations and society, encourage greater awareness of diverse artistic expressions, and highlight the contribution of artists to sustainable development.
In addition to cultural celebrations, MEP reported progress on a major educational infrastructure project for Colegio Técnico Profesional (CTP) de Belén. With an estimated investment of $12 million, this initiative will provide students with modern and safe facilities. The new campus is expected to triple student enrollment capacity and address high labor demand in Belén.
Thousands of people now have access to free English courses starting from April 13. Meanwhile, Costa Rican schools marked important national commemorations this month. The community in Alajuela observed the 170th anniversary of the Battle of Rivas and honored Juan Santamaría’s decisive actions during that historic event on April 11. Nationally, schools also commemorate other key events from the Campaigns of 1856-1857 such as the Battle of Sardinal; these anniversaries are included in school calendars under Executive Decree No. 38322-MEP-MP since 2014 to promote historical memory and civic education among students.
Additionally, MEP coordinated with PROCOMER and other organizations for various initiatives throughout April. The Regional Chess Tournament for San José Central was held at CEAPH Hospital Pedagogy Support Center with participation from over one hundred primary and secondary students.
Students are expected to begin their next academic year in new facilities as these projects continue.
