World Children’s Day marked with educational events and student achievements across Costa Rica

Each year, World Children’s Day is observed globally as a day of action for children, promoted by UNICEF. The date also marks the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

From November 24 to 28, Limón Diurno High School will host more than 1,611 parents and guardians for a parent school workshop. This event aims to engage families in their children’s education.

The I Lead Tour is an event under the “Yo Lidero” program. Additionally, ExpoTÉCNICA Nacional 2025 will gather students from technical education programs across Costa Rica to present innovative solutions to current challenges.

In academic achievements, 35 students from scientific, humanistic, public, and private schools received gold, silver, bronze medals and honorable mentions at the XXVIII Costa Rican Physics Olympiad (Olcofi).

Students from the Cabécar Indigenous Territory of Alto Chirripó have seen positive impacts on their studies following the construction of shelters for Liceo Rural Roca Quemada.

Primary and secondary students showcased entrepreneurial skills at the Regional Cooperative Market. This project is led by the Department of Business Management and Cooperative Education within MEP’s Directorate of Technical Education and Entrepreneurial Skills as part of activities in school cooperatives.

The national educational community now has access to digital accessibility resources designed to support daily educational work.

Eighth-grade students at Colegio Redentorista San Alfonso in Alajuela faced a challenge in music lessons: composing a song using new technologies and digital skills.

Every year, both public and private schools and government offices pay special honors to Costa Rica’s national flag during National Flag Day. The observance was established by Law No. 768 on November 25, 1949. The first hoisting of the National Flag took place on November 12, 1848 at Plaza Mayor de San José (now Central Park), decreed by José María Castro Madriz.
